When tragedy claims their fortune and four daughters in 1873, Horatio and Anna Spafford are separated by an ocean of grief, until Horatio’s journey to his wife transforms unimaginable loss into a song of hope that will echo through history as It Is Well with My Soul.

It Is Well with My Soul tells the powerful true story of Horatio and Anna Spafford, a devoted couple whose lives are upended by unimaginable loss. In the wake of the Great Chicago Fire, their financial ruin is followed by an even deeper tragedy, the death of their four young daughters in a shipwreck at sea. What begins as a story of promise is suddenly transformed into a journey through grief, faith, and the search for meaning.
As Horatio crosses the Atlantic to reunite with his grieving wife, the vast ocean becomes a place of reckoning. Surrounded by sorrow and silence, he confronts the question that haunts every wounded soul: how does one endure when everything is taken away? From this crucible of pain emerges a quiet but defiant hope, one rooted not in circumstance, but in faith.
The film explores a marriage tested by loss yet strengthened by love, revealing how sorrow can either destroy or refine. Through tenderness, doubt, and perseverance, Horatio and Anna discover a renewed purpose, choosing compassion and service over despair. Their story affirms that faith does not deny suffering, but transforms it.
From this journey is born one of the most beloved hymns of all time. It Is Well with My Soul is a stirring testament to resilience, grace, and peace in the midst of life’s fiercest storms, reminding audiences that even in the darkest moments, it is possible to say, and truly believe, “It is well.”

It Is Well with My Soul is the passion project of Australian faith creative David Maegraith. “I grew up singing this song in church and had an inkling of the story behind the song, but not the full picture,” David explains.
David researched the amazing story and decided it deserved to be told worldwide, not only on the big screen, but in book form and even as a stage musical, for which he has written the libretto.
In 2026, David is in the USA to gather a team of faithful creative professionals to bring his vision to the big screen. He has acquired the domain name Itiswellwithmysoul.com and published a book of the story, libretto and a Bible study called ‘Where is God?’, inspired by the true story behind It Is Well with My Soul.
David says, “Through words on the page, a stage musical and, with God’s help an international feature film, this 150-year-old story can finally be told with the honor it deserves, all to the Glory of God.”

Kappa Impact is here to bridge the gap so that stories with eternal impact can be completed and shared. Every finished project is a testament to what’s possible when faith and funding come together.
